… performed a concert of “Iconic Songs from the Heart” that had everyone tapping their feet to old favorites. Stephen provided an entertaining set of pre-concert music to set the mood.

Pianist and composer Larry Arnold led a trio including Logan Jackson on bass and Darius Dawson on drums. They played jazz standards as well as a variety of original compositions by Dr. Arnold.
Duo Guitiano: Carlos Castilla and Amanda Virelles
Gems for Guitar and Piano – May 4, 2025
Husband and wife team Carlos Castilla and Amanda Virelles performed solos and duets for guitar and piano. Having performed as a duo for 25 years, they presented a delightful variety of repertoire of composers from Italy, Argentina, Spain, Cuba, the United States, and Brazil.

Come to the Dance – January 26, 2025
Violinist Megan Kenny and Violist Holland Phillips presented a program of dance-themed repertoire, featuring the music of Chopin, Handel, Milhaud and more, and including the dance forms of the waltz, the sarabande, the mazurka, the polonaise, the jig and others.

300 Years of Trumpet – October 27, 2024
Dr. Timothy Altman (trumpet), Dr. Mark Tollefsen (piano) and Dr. Joseph Van Hassel (percussion) presented a program of works including Baroque trumpet, Haydn’s Concerto in E-flat Major for trumpet and piano, a movement from Eric Ewazen’s Sonata for Trumpet and Piano (1995), and works commissioned by Dr. Altman.

Rev. Dr. Paul Greene Murphy is well known in the Sandhills as a musician of many talents. On piano, he played original compositions and his own arrangements of hymns and American popular music. On saxophone, he played a selection of spirituals, accompanied on piano by Robin Lynne Frye.
Review: Pembroke Singers in Concert – April 21, 2024
Pembroke Singers is the select chamber choir at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke and represents the university at major functions. The group was directed by Dr. Jaeyoon Kim and accompanied on piano by Dr. Seung Ah Kim. The program featured a variety of choral repertoire from Renaissance to contemporary composed by Bach, Handel, and many others, including some Spanish selections.
