What We Do

Women’s Fellowship

Once a month the women of our church meet and have a luncheon and fellowship.  We as a group participate in providing a reception when needed – for example, after a funeral service.
Often we have a speaker from different local clubs. The Free Clinic, Friend to Friend, Sandhills Coalition, and Family Promise receive our love gift every year.  Through the years the Women’s Fellowship has made Christmas decorations for nursing homes and we have had huge rummage sales.

Our hope is that we can continue our functions and add some new projects the women will enjoy. Come join us on the second Wednesday of the month for lunch. We do have a good time!  Springfest is a fun day and usually we have a Cookie sale.

Bible Study Groups

Bible Study meets Tuesday Mornings at 10:00 am with Pastor Mike

Prayer Shawl Group

Prayer shawls are knitted or crocheted and given to people in need after undergoing medical procedures, as a comfort after a loss, during bereavement or during an illness.

On the fourth Wednesday of every month ladies of the church and friends will meet in the church at 10:00am. The shawl makers begin with a prayer.

Most of the shawls are taken to Hospice and as of January 2024, 693 shawls have been handed out.

Choir

Our 11:00 AM service is a more traditional service, including participation by our choir. Ours is a choir of dedicated volunteers open to CCC members and friends. Our choir members come from a wide variety of music backgrounds. Some have years of formal training and can read music off the page, and some have sung primarily around their home and learn music better by listening and repeating. Regardless of an individual’s music background, our choir is a welcoming place for anyone who is interested in singing, a nurturing and supportive community, and God. Participation in the choir offers a vital spiritual resource and forges lasting relationships with others on the journey.

The choir fills our beautiful sanctuary with choral anthems and leads our congregational singing in hymns. They grace our Sunday services with their voices year-round, singing as a full choir from September through mid-June. They sing a broad range of music, from the masterworks of classic sacred repertoire through new compositions that honor the traditional feel of our 11:00 AM service. During the summer months, choir members are encouraged to offer solos, duets, trios, quartets and instrumental music. The choir also sings in special services during Advent and Christmas, Lent and Holy Week. Organ and piano solos and accompaniments complete the offerings of our music ministry. Our music ministry is led by our Director of Music, Robin Lynne Frye. Our choir meets for weekly rehearsals on Wednesdays from 7:00-8:00 PM, and warms up at 10:15 AM on Sundays to sing at our 11:00 AM services.

We are always happy to welcome new members to our choir, and all are invited, from those of middle school age to 100! No prior choral experience is necessary. To join or to find out more, please contact Robin Lynne Frye at 910-315-6049 or robinlynnefrye@gmail.com. You will be joining a very friendly, fun group of people who share a commitment to an important ministry of our church.

Southern Pines Church Choir

Adopt-A-Street

The Community Congregational Church joined the Southern Pines Adopt-A-Street program in 2015. Southern PInes places a sign at either end of the adopted street with the name of the responsible organization. Our church adopted N. Bennett Street from Pennsylvania Ave. north to W. Delaware – a distance of 6/10ths mile and seven blocks.

Our cleanups normally occur in the spring and fall when the weather is not too cold nor too hot. Safety vests, bags, gloves and grabbers are loaned to us by Keep Moore County Beautiful.

After a cleanup there is usually a hearty meal provided for our volunteers.

The purpose of the Scholarship Program is to recognize individual effort, achievement and need, by providing financial assistance to individuals as part of the Church’s Outreach Program of Ministry to the Community. Scholarships are awarded at the sole discretion of the Scholarship Committee.
